A Local’s Guide to the Brockway Area’s Restaurant Scene
One of the most frequent questions we are asked when guests arrive or when they are booking a stay with us is, “Where is a good place to eat nearby?” The Brockway area has options for everyone! Here is your tried and true guide from the Maple Shade Mansion staff themselves:
The Rocky Grill is located only two blocks from The Mansion and offers a varied selection of fine food and desserts. You can choose to either sit in the dining room, or else the attached bar, making it a great option for whatever you are feeling that night. The Grill is known for its mouth-watering steaks and fabulous burgers, but there truly is something for everyone! The Grill also has a nightly features menu to add to the great number of options. Paula, the owner, does a wonderful job keeping the drink selection menu interesting with seasonal specialties. A recent fan favorite for the fall was her caramel apple Moscow mule (incredible!). Make sure to save room for dessert though. Each of the desserts at The Grill are homemade by the Paula’s mom and we probably cannot even recommend one because they are all delicious (that’s a lie, definitely try the crème brulee or peanut butter pie).
The Depot at Doolittle’s is located 8 miles from The Mansion and offers several dining options in train cars. A train car? Yup! Four very unique dining experiences in four different train cars. The first recommendation we make to guests is The Depot’s Parlor Car, which is one of four of these cars ever made in 1913, has a seasonal farm to table menu. The Parlor Car offers more elegant dining. We also like to recommend the 1950’s diner car, which is inside a beautifully restored passenger car and offers classic dishes, with what they call “an updated twist.” Sharon’s go-to recommendation at the 1950’s car is the “Drop the Beet” burger. The Boxcar Brew Works car is a restaurant and Nano-brewery with various selections of locally brewed beers and other locally distilled liquors. Boxcar also has delicious food available to pair with your drink. The tap lists changes regularly, but we highly recommend Pale Smoke, which is a double IPA, Maggie’s Farm Rum, a rum version of a Moscow Mule, and Andy’s Blueberry Shandy, if they are available (sometimes they are not because they are just that good)! When the weather is nice, Boxcar has a porch to allow you to sip your drink, order some food, and enjoy live music outside. Finally, Railcar Pizza allows you to customize your own pizza with any of Railcar’s 20+ toppings. Four options, one location, plenty of great food. The Depot is definitely worth a stop on your trip to The Mansion!
Luigi’s Ristorante is located 11 miles from The Mansion and is best described as fine Italian cuisine in a lively, fun atmosphere. Luigi’s offers dining room seating, seating at the bar, or tables at the indoor garden and veranda. You can expect Eddie, the owner, to stop by your table and tell you a great joke, while you enjoy homemade bread and excellent old-world Italian recipes. Sharon recommends the European Salad or gnocchi with red sauce, and Karl’s favorite is Chicken Romano! Also, be sure to pick up a jar of Luigi’s famous spaghetti sauce to take back home with you too!
Paesano Pizza (located 0.4 miles from The Mansion) and Glasstown Pizzeria (located 0.5 miles from the Mansion) are two incredible pizza places to grab a quick bite to eat, and both are within walking distance from The Mansion! Paesano Pizza is located right on Main Street, and you can walk by and see the owner, John, through the window, tossing pizzas and pulling them out of the oven. Glasstown Pizzeria has been in business in Brockway since the 1980s, and the owner, Dave, recently reopened the pizza shop with its new name after breaking off from a franchise and setting out on his own. Sharon’s recommendation at Glasstown Pizzeria is the veggie flatbread, and at Paesano Pizza she recommends the buffalo chicken salad. On the other hand, Karl’s Glasstown Pizzeria recommendation is the steak and cheese hoagie, and at Paesano Pizza, his go-to is the spinach and mushroom calzone.
When you are planning your next stay at The Mansion, be sure to ask us about the local eateries so we can recommend the best place for you! Mangia!
